30 Snelheid passie zonder grenzen Het lijkt er soms op dat mensen nog voor ze kunnen praten al ken- merken vertonen van wat men in het algemeen een ‘geboren verza- melaar’ noemt. Let daarbij vooral op hen die in de wieg al met autootjes spelen! Op de kleuter- school trekken voornamelijk wie- len, snelheid en fraaie ontwerpen de aandacht van de collectioneur in spe. Later, op de basisschool ontwikkelt zich de verzamelaarsdrift. Geen auto- of motorrace ontgaat hem en al zijn kennis en kunde wordt met succes ingezet – natuurlijk niet zonder hulp – om wereldwijd reclamemateriaal te verwerven. Een en ander kreeg de omvang van een ‘echte’ collectie. Maar de ware verzamelaar voelt zich nooit te professioneel om toch affiches van muren te blijven krabben. Natuurlijk pas ná het evenement. Dat schrapen kon nog wel ’s wat tijd nemen. Zijn vrouw vergezelde hem dikwijls. Zat zij te lezen? Te breien misschien? Doet er niet toe, vast staat dat ze hem begreep. De opbrengst van deze passie? Men herinnert zich hem en zijn collectie! Speed passion without borders Sometimes it seems that people even before they are able to talk, already show signs of what is generally called a ‘born collector’. Special attention should be paid to those who already play with cars when they are still in their cradles! At kindergarten the prospective collec- tors are already pri- marily fascinated by wheels, speed and beautiful designs. Later, at primary school the passion for collecting grows. He never misses a car- or motor race and all his knowledge and skills are successfully employed – with help of course – in collecting worldwide advertising material. It started to acquire the size of a ‘real’ collection. Yet the true collector never felt too professional to stop scraping off posters from walls. Not of course until the event was over. That scraping could take up quite some time. His wife often accompanied him. Was she reading? Knitting perhaps? Never mind, she surely understood him. The proceeds from this pas- sion?
